The boutique bills itself as an “inclusive” and “not creepy” sex shop. The sex-ed workshop will take place in August and separates attendees by age, with a 9-12 age group meeting on Aug. 10-11 and a 13-18 age group meeting on Aug. 15-16.
The workshop promises to cover “relationships, sex, gender, consent, bodies, media and more,” and tickets are $50 apiece.
“Wink Wink’s Uncringe Academy are two-day, empowerment-based sex education workshops for ages 9-17,” an Instagram advertisement says. “No shame, fear, or judgment here! Designed to be inclusive for young people of all identities, our focus is building comfort around these topics so that they can comfortably advocate for their own bodies and well-being.”
Mason defended her workshop in a statement to Seattle-area radio host Jason Rantz, saying that safe sex is “not generally covered as a main topic in this course except as it relates to consent, communication, and safety” in the 9-12 age group.
“The class for 9- to 12-year-olds is an introduction to topics related to relationships, puberty, bodies, and sexuality. We focus on what makes healthy vs. unhealthy friendships and romantic relationships, the science of how puberty works, consent and personal boundaries, defining ‘sex,’ and discussing why people may or may not choose to engage in sexual activities,” she told Rantz. “This course includes understanding the basics of sexual anatomy, including the names and function of body parts related to reproduction and pleasure. We also cover the basics of biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.”

Mason and her Wink Wink Boutique previously drew attention this year for hosting a “Queer Youth Open Mic Night” in June to mark the beginning of Pride Month. That event was advertised to “all ages.”
