Rep. Liz Cheney says former President Donald Trump's speculation that she may not seek reelection is "wishful thinking."
The three-term congresswoman confirmed her plans to run for reelection in spite of Trump's recent statement claiming Cheney was "looking for a way out of her congressional race" because "there is no way she can win."
“I am absolutely dedicated and committed to winning my primary and earning the votes of the people of Wyoming,” Cheney said during a call with Wyoming reporters on Wednesday. “It’s a critical time to make sure that we have the strongest person in Washington fighting on behalf of our values, fighting on behalf of our energy industry, our [agricultural] industry, our families."
TRUMP SLAMS LIZ CHENEY AS A 'WARMONGERING FOOL' IN LATEST TWEEMAIL
On Tuesday, the former president released a tweemail claiming Cheney "is polling sooo low in Wyoming, and has sooo little support, even from the Wyoming Republican Party, that she is looking for a way out of her Congressional race."
"This warmongering fool wants to stay in the Middle East and Afghanistan for another 19 years, but doesn’t consider the big picture — Russia and China!" he added.
Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump on a charge of incitement of insurrection in connection to the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot. He was later acquitted by the Senate. Trump was previously impeached in the House on two Ukraine-related charges in 2019 before he was acquitted in the Senate.
Since Cheney's vote to impeach, she and Trump have frequently been at odds. At a GOP retreat on Monday, Cheney, who holds a top leadership position in the House, said Trump was not the party leader after he railed against "crazy Liz Cheney" in an April 14 tweemail.
"So many people are looking to run against Crazy Liz Cheney — but we only want one. She is so far down in Wyoming polls that the only way she can win is numerous candidates running against her and splitting the vote. Hopefully, that won’t happen. I’ll make an Endorsement soon!" he wrote.
Several candidates are vying to primary Cheney, and Trump has vowed to back one of them. Cheney has returned fire, saying she would not support Trump if he earns the 2024 Republican nomination for president.
"I would not," the third-ranking Republican in the House said when asked whether she'd support Trump.

Despite the infighting and Trump's enduring popularity within the GOP, Cheney's office raised over $1.5 million in the first quarter of 2021, a record for the senior Republican.
The Wyoming at-large representative also survived a referendum from the House GOP caucus on whether she should retain her leadership role. The Feb. 3 vote was 145-61 in Cheney's favor.
