“Just let us go,” Edwin Rivera told the man who jumped into his family’s running car and sped away after his parents stepped away.
The incident took place around 3:00 p.m outside a Minneapolis store, according to a report.

“He said that he needed the car, that’s all,” Rivera said. “I told him that if he wanted it he could take it, but just to let us go.”
His father had been in the car waiting with Rivera and his siblings after his mother went into the store.
The mother told the father she had left her phone inside, the father ran in quickly, and the criminal took the opportunity, the report noted.
“My dad told me to lock it, and right when I got up my dad went into the store and then the guy started running towards the door and he [got there before I could lock it],” Rivera said.
After Rivera convinced the driver to let him and his siblings go, they were dropped off on the side of the road.
“It was terrifying,” Ilse Rivera, the children’s mother, said.
After the children were freed, Minneapolis police arrested a 48-year-old man on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle.
A woman was found inside the van he was driving, and she was released.
