An Amazon construction site in Connecticut shut its doors again for an FBI investigation after eight suspected nooses were found on the premises in the past few weeks.
The latest purported hate symbol, which was made with red rope and yellow electrical cables, was found Wednesday, according to Windsor Police Chief Donald Melanson. The material “was clearly a noose,” he said, adding that it could have been present on the property for up to two weeks.
“Hate, racism, or discrimination have no place in our society and are certainly not tolerated in any Amazon workplace — whether it be under construction like this one, or fully operational. Today, the site was shut down to allow the FBI to continue their investigation following the discovery of a noose found under electrical materials,” a spokesperson for Amazon told NBC Connecticut. “We will continue to work with all levels of law enforcement as well as our development partners, to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure that all members of our community feel valued, respected, and safe.”
AMAZON SHOOTS BACK AT CONGRESSMAN WHO SAID IT MAKES WORKERS URINATE INTO WATER BOTTLES
The retail giant had reopened the facility May 17 after the seventh apparent noose was found. Prior to that, workers discovered the other six potential hate symbols during the last week of April.
Upon Wednesday’s discovery, the building was evacuated, and more than 100 employees were interviewed by authorities. Law enforcement officers have not determined if one suspect or a group of people are responsible, though they said they are fairly confident a worker might be guilty of the crime.
Amazon has offered $50,000 for information leading to the perpetrator’s capture, and the reward jumped to over $100,000 when combined with money added from site contractors and the building developer.
The series of incidents has drawn the attention of Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont, who said he spoke with executives at Amazon to express his concerns.

“The events of the past several weeks at the Amazon construction site in Windsor have been disgusting and hateful,” he said. “The individuals responsible for these actions must be held accountable, and we urge law enforcement to be aggressive in their investigation. This repeated behavior is calculated and clearly meant to stoke fear and encourage racism and bigotry. What we have been seeing at this facility is wrong, and we condemn these actions in the strongest of terms.”
Neither the Windsor Police Department nor Amazon immediately responded to requests for comment from the Washington Examiner.
