The Biden administration continues to turn its Build Back Better agenda into Make Everything Worse. The Center for Immigration Studies has released a report showing the number of deportations of illegal immigrants has plunged since he was inaugurated to their lowest levels since the mid-1990s. President Joe Biden’s lack of enforcement is endangering people and putting the country at risk.
Deportations are down 90% since 2019. Most concerning, deportations of illegal immigrants with “serious criminal convictions” have decreased by more than 50% since 2020 and by 65% since 2019, according to the report. This is a matter of great concern, considering that Biden’s stated motivation for reducing deportations has been to “enable the agencies to better concentrate on removing aliens who represent a threat to the public.”
Furthermore, this lack of deportations has affected “parts of the country where the bulk of [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement]’s cases are the result of interior arrests.” This is concerning because typically, these field offices “are hotbeds of MS-13 and 18th Street gang activity” — areas such as Baltimore County. From Jan. 21 to July 9, ICE deported only 32 criminal immigrants in these hotbeds. Comparatively, during the same time frame in 2020 and 2019, there were 248 and 613 deportations, respectively, according to the report. Unless there was an inexplicable significant decrease in MS-13 gang members going to those areas when Biden became president, it is further evidence of how Biden’s immigration policies are endangering the country.
Simply put, the statistics don’t match the Biden administration’s rhetoric. A significantly smaller number of criminal immigrants was removed under Biden than in previous years despite misleading rhetoric about an increase in the share of immigrants with criminal records. Donald Trump was falsely blamed for calling all those illegal border-crossers rapists, but Biden is the one failing to deport the illegal immigrants who are actually criminals. It’s probably not a coincidence the United States is currently experiencing a crime wave. Biden is choosing to put innocent people at risk of preventable crimes.
