“In the 18 months since January 6, gas prices have doubled, drug [overdoses] have reached their highest point ever, U.S. economy is now [heading for a] devastating recession,” he told his listeners during his opening monologue Thursday. “And scariest and least noted of all, this country has never in its history been closer to a nuclear war. Yet the other networks couldn’t be bothered to cover any of that tonight.”

Members of the Jan. 6 panel have signaled they intend to draw a line connecting former President Donald Trump’s efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election to the Capitol riot. The violence briefly disrupted the process of lawmakers certifying President Joe Biden’s victory.

Taking note of how Fox News has opted not to run the prime-time spectacle, Carlson chided other networks for carrying the hearing live, dismissing the hearings as a “propaganda lie.”

“This is the only hour on an American news channel that will not be carrying the propaganda lie. They are lying, and we are not going to help them do it,” he proclaimed. “We hated seeing vandalism at the U.S. Capitol a year and a half ago, and we said at the time, but we did not think it was an insurrection because it was not an insurrection.”

“It was not even close to an insurrection. Not a single person in the crowd that day was found to be carrying a firearm,” he added.

Carlson referenced a report from CBS News that talked about how five police officers died following the riot and explained to viewers that four of those deaths were the result of suicide.

“Suicide — unfortunately, it’s pretty common among cops. Policing is a tough job,” he said. “They are lying to you. That is provable. Not a single person who just saw has apologized for lying. Not a single one. And it’s not just the news media.”

The prime-time host briefly peddled theories about Ray Epps, a man some suspect was an FBI informant goading the crowd ahead of the riot, despite his denials.

“From the extensive video we have of January 6, it’s clear that some in the crowd — more than a few — were encouraging protesters to breach the Capitol to commit felonies,” he said.

Carlson also underscored that he was not defending vandalism and then cautioned that the ruling class has done a poor job managing the country’s affairs as prices at the gas pump and crime in cities across the country continue to rise.

“We are not defending and would never defend vandalism, violence. We disapproved of it when it happened. We disapprove of it now. All right, it’s not just this one. But this was not an insurrection. But, you know, we’ll get an insurrection if you ignore the legitimate concerns of a population — if you brush them aside is if they don’t matter.”
