LA schools promote ‘Queer All School Year’ calendar, documents show

The Los Angeles Unified School District offers schools and teachers a “Queer All School Year” calendar that provides a blueprint for promoting LGBT pride throughout the year.

Documents from the Los Angeles Unified School District Human Relations, Diversity, and Equity office contain a month-by-month plan for schools to promote gay and transgender ideology to students in different ways.

The documents, obtained by conservative education activist and Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow Christopher Rufo, encourage school staff to “support students in starting a GSA or Rainbow Club” in August, “prep for next month’s Solidarity Week and teach LGBT- inclusive curriculum all year” in September, and “post LGBTQ-affirming signs in your office, classrooms, and around campus” in December.

In February, schools are encouraged to “participate in the Black Lives Matter in Schools Week of Action” to commemorate Black History Month. Other monthly plans include “review[ing] your school’s practices to ensure everyone’s name and gender pronouns are affirmed” in March and celebrating Pride Month in June.

Also contained in the documents is a series of slides from several professional training programs for LA teachers, including one that claims the black community harbors homophobic and transphobic views.

“Black LGBTQ youth experience homophobia and transphobia from their familial communities and racism from the LGBTQ community,” one slide says. “The Black community often holds rigid and traditional views of sexual orientation and gender expression.”

In a series of tweets, Rufo noted that LAUSD is among the many school districts nationwide that require school officials to keep a student’s gender transition secret from parents.

“Los Angeles Unified has gone all-in on ‘trans-affirming’ programming, encouraging kindergartners to experiment with non-binary gender identities and organizing ‘trans and gender nonbinary’ sexuality clubs for middle school students,” Rufo wrote.

In a statement to the Washington Examiner, a Los Angeles Unified School District spokesperson said, “Los Angeles Unified supports and respects the diversity of our students and families, which includes providing safe and affirming learning environments.”
