A herd of cattle got loose, with one cow going rogue running along a busy Oklahoma City highway as cars zoomed past before two cowboys could lasso it to a halt Monday.

The cow was running down Interstate 40 near Pennsylvania Avenue before moving to the adjacent service road where cowboys and two vehicles tried to stop it.

“Got the phone call that there were some cows out, heading down I-40,” said Blake Igert, one of the cowboys who was reportedly about to start work as a contractor for Oklahoma National Stockyards but instead saddled up and rode down the highway on horseback. “It was a little more intense this time. We were right in the middle of traffic. The cows were heading right into the interstate.”

KOCO’s sky crew caught the pursuit on camera. In the video, the crew can be heard cheering the cowboys on after the vehicles were unsuccessful in closing around the cow.

“Get him, get him, get him. Stay on him, stay on him,” a KOCO crew member said, giving a play-by-play account just before one of the cowboys lassoed the cow’s neck. “Yes! You got it, you got it, you got it! Woo hoo! That is awesome!”

“You got to be patient and wait for a good opportunity,” Igert said.

Igert and another cowboy wrangled the cow down safely after lassoing its back legs.

“It’s not completely new, but you also don’t see it every day,” Igert said, noting it was an experience he would never forget.
