The U.S. Capitol Police say officers arrested two protesters Saturday for throwing paint over the protective fence surrounding the Supreme Court Building.
Both were charged with destruction of property. They were among the hundreds protesting the court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The decision, released Friday, removed the federal protection of abortion and left law surrounding the procedure up to the states.
Police also reported that 12 protesters suffered from heat-related issues. The nation’s capital reported a high temperature of 87.8 degrees Fahrenheit during the day.

“The USCP and our local partners worked together to bring in cooling buses & additional people to help demonstrators with heat issues,” the department wrote in a tweet. “Please stay hydrated and please stay safe.”
Protests have been ongoing in Washington, D.C., ever since the draft of the majority opinion was leaked in May. Protesters have rallied outside the homes of Supreme Court justices in Maryland and Virginia to show their support for abortion rights.
