A teenage Bronx mother was arrested and charged with throwing her 1-day-old son out of a fifth-floor window last October, police announced Thursday.

The teenager faces murder and manslaughter charges in connection to her son’s death, police confirmed. First responders discovered the newborn unresponsive inside a flowerbed outside the 17-year-old mother’s apartment on East 158th Street in the Bronx last October and quickly pronounced him dead, police told the Washington Examiner.

The woman, whose name has not been released, arrived at Lincoln Hospital following the incident, which took place on Oct. 24, 2021, officials said. She admitted to giving birth to the child inside her apartment a day prior, police explained.

The city’s Medical Examiner’s Office determined the child’s death was likely the result of a homicide. She was likely responsible for the child’s death, an investigation found.
