A North Dakota man took his own life in a Fargo courtroom Monday following a jury verdict that found him partially guilty in terrorizing-related charges.
The man had slashed his throat with a knife, which was believed to have possibly been a plastic utensil, said North Dakota U.S. Marshal Dallas Carlson.
“He produced an edge weapon and cut his throat,” Carlson said, according to KVRR.
The incident happened after the jury had left, but courtroom staff and U.S. District Judge Peter Welte witnessed the man’s death, Carlson said. Court security officers and deputy marshals attempted life-saving measures on the man.

The man was about to be taken into custody on the guilty charge, though he did not know of which charge he was convicted, FBI spokesman Kevin Smith told the Associated Press.
“He did the self-harm after he heard the verdict and after the jury had left the courtroom,” Smith said.
