During an event Monday night, O’Rourke stated that he felt the “border is doing pretty great right now.”
While it is uncertain how O’Rourke defines the word “great,” given the violence that Customs and Border Protection officers regularly encounter at the border or the victims of human and drug trafficking, it seems “great” is an abysmal choice of words. It is further proof of just how out of touch with reality Democrats such as him are.
“We all agree that we want the border to be better. In fact, I think the border is pretty great right now. I’d love to see investments in our communities protecting our natural heritage, improving the ability to help those who are seeking asylum and trying to do it lawfully and in an orderly fashion because they literally cannot return to their home countries for fear of being killed or their children being kidnapped,” O’Rourke said.
But O’Rourke is wrong. Things are far from great at the border. They’re the worst they have ever been. His comments come after the worst month on record for illegal border crossings.
“The number of migrants attempting to illegally cross our Southern border is reaching staggering levels,” Rep. Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin said in a press release. “An estimated 234,088 illegal migrants were encountered at the Southwest border in April, the highest monthly total in the history of the Department of Homeland Security.”
“Of the record number of migrants illegally crossing the border, an estimated 184,000 were released and remained in the interior of the United States,” Grothman said. “The 117,989 recorded ‘humanitarian releases’ represent an increase of 47 percent from March and we saw roughly an additional 8,600 unaccompanied children released to sponsors. This is on top of the estimated 58,000 got-aways who dodged Border Patrol altogether.”
Furthermore, in April, the Center for Immigration Studies stated that “just fewer than 1.06 million” illegal immigrants were encountered at the border for “just the first half of fiscal year 2022.” Furthermore, since Biden has been in office, 836,225 illegal immigrants have been released into the interior.
It’s important to note the number of criminals included in the border crisis. Often portrayed by Democrats like Beto as people just trying to find a better life, the reality is that many, not all, of them are criminals wishing to harm innocent people. According to statistics from CBP, under the Biden administration, the number of illegal immigrants convicted for violent acts such as homicide, assault, drug trafficking, and sexual crimes has soared, reaching levels that meet or exceed those not seen since President Barack Obama was in office.
“Robert Francis O’Rourke is once again proving himself to be out-of-touch with Texans,” Nicole Morales, RNC spokeswoman, told me in an email. “Biden’s border crisis is almost as ‘great’ as Beto’s failed presidential run.”
You’d figure someone running for governor of Texas would know the horrible situation at the border. If he doesn’t, he should ask a CBP officer or one of the people an illegal immigrant killed. The border situation is a disaster, not great, and neither is Beto.
