Their response to Hurricane Ian’s devastation proves that the people of Florida are resilient. Florida will be the case study on the wisdom of adaptation, mitigation, and economic dynamism to the challenges of warming oceans. The progressive philosophy of economic stagnation and big government suffocation will fail in Florida.
Floridians believe fervently in the 10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
RON DESANTIS HAS HANDLED HURRICANE IAN EFFECTIVELY
That matters because the people of Florida, and their state and local governments, have created an economic dynamo, a perpetual growth machine. Over the past 25 years, economic growth in Florida has averaged just over 4%, twice the national average. And over the past 20 years, population growth in Florida has been double that of the average across the nation. Each year, more than 300,000 people move to Florida. They come because they don’t have to shovel snow here and because of employment opportunities. Faster growth brings more jobs. These people migrate from high-tax states. The perpetual growth model works: free market capitalism, economic growth, and low taxes. And people migrate to Florida because energy costs less. Electricity costs 70% more in California than in Florida. Gasoline costs 80% more.
It’s not surprising, then, that Florida is turning increasingly “red” on the political spectrum. The Left wants to tear down what good economic fundamentals and limited government have built. But the Left will fail. Instead, as attested by Florida, hard-working men and women will prevail.
