Vice President Kamala Harris is one of the worst politicians in the country. So naturally, she took up one of the least persuasive arguments in favor of abortion after the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade.
Speaking to CNN, Harris tried to win over as many people as possible by claiming that abortion affects everyone. “When we think about it, everyone has something at risk on this,” Harris said. “First of all, if you are a parent of sons, do think about what this means for the life of your son and what that will mean in terms of the choices he will have.”
You may not have been persuaded by Democratic arguments that abortion must be legal up to birth and maybe even a little bit later, but have you ever considered that your son might be responsible for caring for a child after he gets a woman pregnant? Wouldn’t it be so much easier for him to pressure that woman into aborting your grandchild?
You wouldn’t want your son to be responsible for his actions, would you? The horror!
Encouraging this deadbeat-dad mindset is not Harris’s decision alone. NBC’s TODAY chose to celebrate Father’s Day by asking men how killing their unborn children made them better fathers to the children they decided were convenient. Democrats have tried to find an avenue to turn supporting abortion into a men’s issue. They have apparently decided to warn parents that their sons won’t be able to have casual sex without consequences.
Harris frequently takes up the worst arguments on issues that Democrats are already losing. She ludicrously insisted that voter ID laws are bad because rural Americans don’t have access to photocopiers — yes, she said that. She claimed it was not a problem that she, the point woman on the Biden administration’s border policy, had not visited the southern border because she hadn’t been to Europe, either. She has managed to stumble on every issue at every turn since she became vice president, and this is no different.
Democrats are going to struggle to find a foothold in the abortion debate, now that their Roe safety net is gone and their euphemisms won’t justify their support for abortion on demand up to the moment of birth. And no one will struggle more than Harris, the heir apparent to the Democratic Party who has proven herself politically inept at every opportunity.
