Rep. Flores urges ‘fight for values,’ opposes Soros-linked Spanish media purchase

Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) is calling upon the Hispanic community to fight for conservative values traditionally passed down through generations of Latino families.

The congresswoman is seeking to draw attention to liberal billionaire George Soros’s likely takeover of 18 Spanish-language AM and FM radio stations.

“He wants the Hispanic community to forget about God and family values,” Flores said of Soros during an interview on the Truth with Lisa Boothe podcast Monday. “That’s what the far Left wants us to do.”

“I’m calling on the Hispanic community,” Flores continued. “Fight for your abuelo’s values — fight for your parents’ values that were instilled in you that live in us, and instill those values into your kids and into your grandkids.”

Latino Media Network has filed its $60 million all-cash deal to acquire 18 stations from TelevisaUnivision with the Federal Communications Commission, according to RadioInsight.

Among the network’s investors is Lakestar Finance, which affiliates itself with Soros.

Steve Cortes, who served on the Hispanic Advisory Council for President Donald Trump’s campaign, previously suggested Soros’s investment is representative of liberals’ efforts to counter Hispanics moving to a more conservative political position.

“The radicalism of the Democrats today has effectively left formerly Dem-leaning Latinos as political orphans,” Cortes told Fox News Digital. “Hispanics increasingly rally to the ‘America First’ combination of cultural conservatism plus patriotic populist economics.”

Flores, who used to vote Democrat, said she changed parties when she realized her beliefs better aligned with Republican views.

“I was not aware, to be honest with you, what each party stood for,” Flores said. “I voted Democrat because most people in the Hispanic community do vote Democrat, but once I realized what each party stood for, I realized that my values aligned with the Republican Party.”

She encouraged both Hispanic and American communities to be mindful of what is at stake in elections.

“Because this is really a battle against good versus evil,” she said. “And them wanting to take everything away from us.”

Flores beat out Democratic challenger Dan Sanchez in June in a special election to finish Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela’s current term in South Texas, a competitive congressional seat that the GOP believes it can flip in November.
