Hunter Biden says his staying sober is key to beating Trump in 2024

Hunter Biden believes his sobriety will play a key role in the 2024 presidential election.

Hunter Biden’s addictions and lavish behavior have come under intense scrutiny since his father announced his run for president in 2019, with his drug addiction and business dealings causing immense trouble for now-President Joe Biden. Hunter Biden openly recognized this link in an interview with Axios, arguing that whether or not he stays sober may play a key role in the 2024 presidential election.

“I have something much bigger than even myself at stake,” Hunter Biden said. “We are in the middle of a fight for the future of democracy.”

Echoing remarks he made during a press conference on Capitol Hill last year, Hunter Biden said his struggle with addiction has consequences on his father’s life and the future of the country as much as for him, personally.

“Most importantly, you have to believe that you’re worth the work, or you’ll never be able to get sober. But I often do think of the profound consequences of failure here,” Hunter Biden said.

“Maybe it’s the ultimate test for a recovering addict — I don’t know,” he continued. “I have always been in awe of people who have stayed clean and sober through tragedies and obstacles few people ever face. They are my heroes, my inspiration.”

Last year, Hunter Biden swore in federal court that he has been sober since June 2019, shortly after his father announced he was running for president.

In September 2023, U.S. Magistrate Judge Christopher Burke said the president’s son had tested negative for drugs and alcohol several times, and someone from Hunter Biden’s legal team told Axios he has continued to test negative since then.
