Costco will require all customers to wear face masks starting May 4

One of the top retailers in the United States announced plans to require that all customers and employees begin wearing face masks on May 4.

Representatives with Costco said the company plans to reopen stores nationwide with normal operating hours in the coming week and that the new mask policy does not replace the need for social distancing.

“The use of a mask or face covering should not be seen as a substitute for social distancing,” read a statement from the company. “Please continue to observe rules regarding appropriate distancing while on Costco premises.”

The company, which operates on a membership basis, announced it will limit store entries to two people per membership and that stores in Texas, Kentucky, and Puerto Rico will be limited to only one person per membership.

The retailer also said it will block out an hour everyday between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. for shoppers above the age of 60 to purchase goods.
