‘We will win this fight together!’: Georgia governor celebrates lowest number of hospitalized coronavirus patients in a month

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp celebrated the news that Saturday marked the lowest number of hospitalized coronavirus patients in the state since reporting began.

“Today marks the lowest number of COVID-19 positive patients currently hospitalized statewide (1,203) since hospitals began reporting this data on April 8th,” Kemp wrote on Twitter. “Today also marks the lowest total of ventilators in use (897 with 1,945 available).”

“We will win this fight together!”

Former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson, who has become a vocal supporter of ending stay-at-home orders, pointed out that the positive milestone comes more than two weeks after Kemp’s decision to reopen the state, which was widely criticized by the media, as well as by President Trump.

Georgia has boosted coronavirus testing, and Kemp urged every Georgian to get tested as the number of coronavirus cases in the state sat at 32,497, with 1,400 deaths as of noon on Saturday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“In accordance with new Centers for Disease Control & Prevention guidance, the [state] Department of Public Health and district offices are now encouraging all Georgians — even if they are not experiencing symptoms — to schedule an appointment with their healthcare provider, local health department, or get a screening through the Augusta University Health ExpressCare app,” Kemp said this week.
