Dennis Quaid lauds Trump’s coronavirus response: He’s ‘doing a good job’

Actor Dennis Quaid voiced support for President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Hollywood veteran gave an expansive interview to the Daily Beast Wednesday and said he thought the president was doing a solid job with the economy and lauded his travel bans meant to mitigate the spread of the virus.

“I think Trump, no matter what anybody thinks of him, is doing a good job at trying to get these states, and all of the American people, what they need, and also trying to hold our economy together and be prepared for when this is all over,” Quaid said.

He added: “Trump did do the travel ban to China, and then to Europe very quickly afterward, and he was castigated by a lot of members of Congress, who were just getting out of impeachment, that it was racist what he was doing. It’s a good thing we had that travel ban at the time. You know, the world has never experienced this, and I don’t think it’s a time to be political.”

The actor said the United States was “very adaptable,” adding: “I think we’re all going to get through it. My heart goes out to everyone.”

Quaid breaks with many Hollywood figures who have claimed Trump was to blame for thousands of deaths caused by the coronavirus.

For instance, frequent Trump critic Alec Baldwin suggested Trump was the “virus” and “the vaccine arrives in November.” Filmmaker Rob Reiner said the GOP knew Trump was “incompetent” and the “blood is on their hands too.”
