Sen. Mullin claims Haley campaign is ‘not being realistic’

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) encouraged 2024 Republican hopeful Nikki Haley to start “being realistic” and drop out.

Mullin appeared on State of the Union Sunday just ahead of the Super Tuesday elections, in which his state of Oklahoma will be participating. Haley has already lost every Republican primary so far but has chosen to remain in the race for the GOP nomination against Donald Trump.

“I don’t think she’s actually being realistic and what she‘s trying to get done here. She hasn‘t won a state,” Mullin said. “However, at some point, you got to call it. I thought she would call it after she lost her own state in a horrible fashion. Now that we go into Super Tuesday, there‘s not a chance she‘s going to win a single state.”

Haley has contended that there are voters who are so against Trump that he will not win them over, and their votes will go instead to President Joe Biden. For example, 40% of South Carolina voters reported their vote was simply against Trump. Mullin claimed that it was just a “fringe” group of the party.

“Anybody can put their name on any ballot when it’s one-on-one and get 30% of the vote,” Mullin said.

Trump had Mullin’s endorsement long before Haley was left as his only opposing candidate. Since then, the former president has had the endorsement of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Vivek Ramaswamy, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC).

Meanwhile, Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is the only ex-candidate to endorse Haley. Former Gov. Chris Christie and former Vice President Mike Pence have opted not to issue an endorsement yet after they dropped out respectively.
