Conservative group launches Bidenomics website critiquing president’s ‘rhetoric’

The conservative organization Americans for Prosperity has launched a new website focused on Bidenomics and how President Joe Biden’s policies are hurting families in the United States.

The website is part of an eight-figure campaign that AFP is launching to critique Bidenomics, a term coined by the Biden administration to show how the president’s policies are helping the U.S. economy. The page, described by AFP as “the website Joe Biden doesn’t want you to see,” will be regularly updated by AFP to fact-check the president’s claims about Bidenomics, comparing Biden’s “rhetoric” with the “reality” of Bidenomics.

“The reality is that everything costs more due to President Biden’s big government spending binge,” AFP Vice President of Government Affairs Akash Chougule said. “President Biden and his allies in Congress flooded the economy with more than $5 trillion and now Americans are paying thousands more each year just to make ends meet. The White House is telling Americans not to believe their checkbooks, but AFP is committed to calling out Bidenomics for what it is and turning up the heat on those responsible.”

Among the comparisons between rhetoric versus reality is a statement Biden made in June 2023, claiming that his administration is “bringing down prices across the board.” However, the website states that “overall prices are up almost 18%” since the president took office in January 2021, citing a recent press release from House Republicans.

The website also features two short videos of interviews of U.S. residents discussing how Bidenomics has affected them, all of whom state that their cost of living is higher than it used to be. The first video focuses on the increased price of groceries while the second is about higher gas prices.

AFP’s launch of this website comes as the economy will likely play a key factor in who voters cast their vote for in the presidential election this November. A survey conducted last month found that 20% of 1,493 respondents said the economy and inflation were the biggest topics they cared about, ahead of healthcare at 14% and immigration at 12%.

AFP had initially endorsed former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley in the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential primary race, but it opted to halt spending for her after she lost the primary in South Carolina, her home state. The group’s decision stemmed from its belief that no outside group could “widen her path to victory.”

Despite its decision to halt funding for Haley, AFP has remained wary of former President Donald Trump winning the Republican Party’s nomination, as “the last 3 election cycles have painted a very clear picture” that voters are rejecting Trump’s vision for the Republican Party. Trump has won the primary races in a multitude of states, setting the stage for a rematch between him and Biden should he win the presidential nomination.
