The bail was raised to $250,000 for a retired police officer Tuesday after prosecutors said new victims testified against the man who is already facing 122 child molestation charges stemming from incidents that occurred two decades ago.
James Carey, 52, a former Warminster Township police officer who later became a school bus driver, was charged on April 7 with sexually abusing at least four teenage boys on several occasions from about 1987 to 2009, according to Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub.

On Tuesday, Bucks County President Judge Wallace H. Bateman Jr. increased the bail of Carey to $250,000 after calling the original bail set during his preliminary arraignment “woefully inadequate.”
Carey was initially held on a $100,000 bail and was released after posting 10% bond following his arrest two weeks ago.
Weintraub, the prosecutor in Carey’s case, also called the bail posting inadequate.
“I can’t answer for what’s in a judge’s mind,” Weintraub said at the time. “I wish I could, but I can’t.”
Carey was a D.A.R.E. officer with the department and later worked as a substitute bus driver for schools in Dennis Township until last fall. Prosecutors claimed new accusations have come to light, suggesting that there are more victims, according to a local CBS affiliate.
In a grand jury presentment earlier this month, four victims came forward and testified that Carey used his position as a Warminster Township police officer to get close to them and engage in yearslong instances of sexual abuse, according to the complaint.

Carey had not posted the newly raised bail as of Tuesday night, and his lawyer vowed that his client would be absolved of his charges.
