Taylor Swift stays neutral in Super Tuesday post

Taylor Swift has issued another call to her social media followers to go out and vote, though the singer did not specify who they ought to vote for on Super Tuesday.

Swift’s post directed her followers to Vote.org, which helps people get registered to vote and see which candidates are on the ballot. Her post on Instagram, however, did not contain any endorsement for a candidate, something many predict could shift the balance among younger voters this election season.

“Today, March 5, is the Presidential Primary in Tennessee and 16 other states and territories,” Swift wrote in an Instagram story. “I wanted to remind you guys to vote the people who most represent YOU into power. If you haven’t already, make a plan to vote today. Whether you’re in Tennessee or somewhere else in the US, check your polling places and times at vote.org.”

This is not the first time that Swift has directed her followers to the voter registration website. She shared a post in September last year encouraging them to get registered to vote, leading to 35,252 people getting registered and over 150,000 visiting the site. On Instagram alone, Swift has 282 million followers.

The possibility of a Swift endorsement has not phased former President Donald Trump. He claimed last month that “there’s no way” the musician would endorse Biden over him, citing how he was “responsible” for updating copyright law for the music streaming era. Trump has not yet secured the position of the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nominee but is consistently ahead in multiple polls and primary elections.

Trump’s dismissal of Swift potentially endorsing Biden ahead of the 2024 election was made even though she endorsed the current president ahead of the 2020 election, detailing her decision to vote for Biden in an interview that she shared on X, which was at the time known as Twitter. Included in her post was a photo of her carrying a tray of “Biden Harris 2020” cookies.

In a 2019 interview she conducted, Swift said she regretted not supporting then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election between her and Trump. On Election Day 2016, Swift shared a social media post encouraging her followers to go vote but did not say who she voted for.
