Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell named Fornash the state’s interim secretary of education, a promotion for the deputy education secretary. Her former boss, Gerard Robinson, left in June to serve as Florida’s education commissioner. Before taking the deputy post in March 2010, Fornash spent four years as the chief government liaison for Virginia Tech, where she attended school. Prior to that, she was the university’s Restructuring Project director, and directed Tech’s Richmond Center.
