Sound of Freedom, Jesus Revolution, and Journey to Bethlehem celebrate big wins at 2024 Movieguide Awards

Themes of faith, family, and freedom were honored at the 2024 Movieguide Awards as Angel Studios’s Sound of Freedom, Lionsgate’s Jesus Revolution, and AFFIRM Films’s Journey to Bethlehem took home big wins.

Sound of Freedom took home the Faith and Freedom Award for Movies. The film, which details the true story of how a federal agent quits his job and risks his life to journey into the jungles of Colombia in an effort to save a girl from sex slavery, was also nominated for the Best Movie for Mature Audiences award.

Angel Studios’s documentary After Death, which explores what happens after death from the perspectives of scientists and survivors, was nominated for the Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring Movie award but did not win.

“We were honored to have several Angel projects celebrated this year, and to have Sound of Freedom win the Faith and Freedom award was an incredible highlight, showing how the film continues to resonate with audiences in the U.S. and around the world,” Angel Studios Chief Distribution Officer Jared Geesey told the Washington Examiner.

Lionsgate’s Jesus Revolution took home the Best Movie for Mature Audiences award. It was also nominated for the Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring Movie award. The film, which is based on the real-life experience of Southern California pastor Chuck Smith, who invites hippies into his church, beginning the real-life Christian movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s, featured actors Kelsey Grammer, Joel Courtney, and Anna Grace Barlow.

Jesus Revolution’s Grammer, Courtney, and Barlow were also nominated for the Grace Prize for Most Inspiring Performance for Movie award.

On a Wing and a Prayer’s Dennis Quaid took him the Grace Prize for Movie Performance award, while A Christmas Blessing’s Lori Loughlin took home the Grace Prize for TV Performance award.

AFFIRM Films’s Big George Foreman and Christmas film Journey to Bethlehem were also among those nominated for the Epiphany Prize and the Grace Prize awards. Journey to Bethlehem was also nominated for the Best Movie for Families award and ended the night claiming the Epiphany Prize for Movies award.

“We’re very appreciative of Movieguide’s 31-year track-record of highlighting the best of inspiring and life-changing entertainment, and their nominations of three AFFIRM projects this year including Journey to Bethlehem, Big George Foreman, and Karen Kingsbury’s A Thousand Tomorrows,” Rich Peluso, executive vice president and head of AFFIRM Films, Television & Originals at Sony Pictures, told the Washington Examiner

Super Mario Bros. Movie was also recognized as the best family movie.

“Movieguide is an incredible partner and advocate. Their commitment to help audiences connect with excellent projects that mirror their values has been a lighthouse for many families,” Geesey also told the Washington Examiner.
