A District man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for conspiring to kidnap his former brother-in-law, stabbing him multiple times and leaving him for dead.
A D.C. jury convicted Demecio Lopez, 34, on kidnapping and other charges in the brutal attack on his sister’s former husband in October. The same jury also convicted Lopez’s wife, Angele Guevara, of threatening to injure or kidnap. She was sentenced to 20 months behind bars in January.
On June 5, 2010, Lopez, Geuvara and three others conspired to kidnap the former relative at knifepoint, drive him to Rock Creek Park, stabbed him six times and dumped him in the 3800 block of Harewood Road NE near Catholic University, prosecutors said.
The victim was discovered by a passerby, who called 911. At the hospital, doctors performed life-saving operations, including the removal of his right kidney, prosecutors said.
