Border Patrol agent from Texas dies in off-duty accident

A U.S. Border Patrol agent based out of Texas died in an off-duty accident while stationed in upstate New York, according to a union representative.

Agent Hunter Labombard died Tuesday while on assignment to the northern border, though the cause of death has not been disclosed by the federal agency or union.

National Border Patrol Council chapter for Del Rio Sector President Jon Anfinsen, also a Border Patrol agent, told the Washington Examiner Thursday that Labombard had been on temporary assignment to Border Patrol’s Swanton Sector in Vermont. The Swanton region includes parts of upstate New York, where Labombard was stationed.

Labombard was based out of Carrizo Springs, Texas, a remote town of 5,300 residents that is roughly 100 miles southwest of San Antonio.

Labombard had been deployed to New York since this fall, Anfinsen said.

“His classmates and the rest of USBP mourn this loss with his family. RIP, brother,” the NBPC Del Rio union chapter wrote in a post to Twitter.

A GoFundMe page set up in Labombard’s honor on Wednesday afternoon stated that he was on a “compassionate detail,” though Anfinsen said that that was not the reason for the agent’s assignment.

Labombard leaves behind his wife, Zoe, who is seven months pregnant with their first child.
