General Motors named a new head of global safety Tuesday as part of its ongoing effort to repair the damage from last month’s recall of 1.6 million small cars. The company has admitted it knew about defective ignition switches 11 years ago but failed to recall the cars until now. The problem has been linked to more than a dozen deaths.
