Dem senator: ‘There won’t be an indictment’

Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown is confident that federal investigators will forego recommending criminal charges against Hillary Clinton for her handling of classified information on a private email server during her tenure at the State Department.

“I’m really not. I’m not worried about it,” Brown, who’s rumored to be on the presumptive Democratic nominee’s vice presidential short list, told ABC’s Martha Raddatz on Sunday.

“I’ve seen what Secretary Clinton has done. She’s released 55,000 pages of emails, 31,000 different emails. She’s released her tax returns since 1977. She’s released her healthcare records. She’s always been willing to talk to the authorities,” he said.

Clinton was questioned by the FBI on Saturday during a lengthy interview at the agency’s headquarters in Washington. A spokesman for the former secretary of state said she was “pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion.”

Brown commended Clinton for cooperating with agency officials, but criticized her husband’s private meeting with U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

“It was unfortunate, we’ve all made that case. I wished it hadn’t happened,” he said. The meeting has led many to question whether Lynch can be impartial in the email probe.

“But I think the FBI will do its job. I’ve seen the authorities in my career in the House and Senate do their jobs regardless of political machinations or pressure,” Brown added. “I think there won’t be an indictment and I think that means she’s done what many secretaries of state did in the past.”
