Two teenage boys who escaped from police while being transported from a court hearing face new charges after they allegedly stole an officer’s pistol, hit him with it, and fired several rounds at him.
The 14-year-old and 15-year-old have each been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer with a firearm, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. They have been charged as adults.
The teenagers reportedly escaped from police on Thursday while en route to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Augusta. According to officials, the teenagers managed to attack the deputy transporting them, steal his .45-caliber handgun, fire three rounds in his direction, and escape into the woods.

The officer was reportedly knocked unconscious during the attack but is now “safely recovering,” per Sheriff Alfonzo Williams of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. The teenagers were found in a storage container.
The suspects were originally being held on burglary and firearms charges, according to WRDW.
