Mattel is launching a new version of the iconic board game Scrabble, with this one attempting to win over less competitive players.
The new version of Scrabble, titled “Scrabble Together,” features a double-sided board, with one side featuring the classic version of the game and the other side being “more accessible for anyone who finds word games intimidating,” according to a statement from Mattel.
“Scrabble has truly stood the test of time as one of the most popular board games in history, and we want to ensure the game continues to be inclusive for all players,” Mattel global head of games Ray Adler said. “For anyone who’s ever thought, ‘word games aren’t for me’, or felt a little intimidated by the Classic game, Scrabble Together Mode is an ideal option.”
This updated version intends to have players work together instead of competing against each other and also features cards to give players a helping hand if they need one.

Mattel informed the Washington Examiner that this new version of Scrabble will only be released outside the United States, as it only has the license to the board game internationally.
The toy manufacturing company cited research it conducted among 2,000 board game players, which found that 35% of recipients believe baby boomers are the most competitive. Millennials were the second most competitive at 31%, while Generation Z followed at 29%.
