Bipartisan pair of lawmakers introducing resolution to condemn QAnon

A bipartisan pair of House lawmakers will introduce a resolution to condemn QAnon.

Rep. Tom Malinowski, a Democrat from New Jersey, and Rep. Denver Riggleman, a Republican from Virginia, will introduce the resolution on Tuesday focused on the far-right conspiracy theory that claims a shadowy cabal of Satan-worshiping Democratic leaders is running a child trafficking ring and President Trump is fighting to stop it.

“QAnon and the conspiracy theories it promotes are a danger and a threat that has no place in our country’s politics. I condemn this movement and urge all Americans to join me in taking this step to exclude them and other extreme conspiracy theories from the national discourse,” Riggleman said on social media.

Malinowski added that their object is “a fully bipartisan Congressional repudiation of this dangerous, anti-Semitic, conspiracy-mongering cult that the FBI says is radicalizing Americans to violence.”

Some Republicans (including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Liz Cheney, and Rep. Adam Kinzinger) have already repudiated QAnon. But their condemnation came as some QAnon backers won GOP nominations in House and Senate districts. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who won the GOP nomination in Georgia’s heavily red 14th Congressional District, voiced support for QAnon backer but has since distanced herself from the group. Oregon GOP Senate nominee Jo Rae Perkins is also a QAnon-believer.

A number of Trump administration officials, the president included, have said they are unfamiliar with the conspiracy theory, but Trump also thanked them for supporting him.
