Vegas airport traffic down 3 percent in Sept.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials say passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport dropped 3 percent in September compared with a year earlier.

Airport data released Monday shows a little more than 3.4 million passengers for the month, down from 3.5 million in September 2011.

The airport is still ahead of pace for the year. The number of arriving and departing passengers topped 31 million for the first nine months of the year. That’s up 0.9 percent from the same period in 2011.

McCarran is the seventh-busiest airport nationally and 20th worldwide by passenger volume.

International passenger traffic jumped nearly 10 percent the third full month after the airport opened a $2.4 billion third airport terminal to handle overseas and some domestic airlines.
