Several states throughout the United States reported 911 emergency services outages on Wednesday night. The largest city affected appeared to be Las Vegas, Nevada.
Nevada State Police alerted people through social media platforms that the outage affected people living in areas throughout Southern Nevada. Residents in parts of Nevada were unable to call 911 from cellphones and landline phones, starting around 7 p.m. local time, according to reports.
“URGENT: Southern Nevada — there is a 911 outage impacting your ability to contact Emergency Services in Southern Nevada right now,” the Nevada State Police posted on X.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department also took to X to bring awareness to the 911 outage.
“There is a 911 outage impacting your ability to make calls,” Las Vegas Fire and Rescue posted on X.
Outages for 911 emergency services also were announced in several other states around the country, including cities in Texas, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Residents of those areas were unable to use cellphones or landline phones to call 911. Some areas reported the ability to contact 911 through text messages during the outage.
Nevada and South Dakota were able to restore 911 services a couple of hours after the outage started, multiple sources reported. Several law enforcement agencies in cities in those states announced the restoration of emergency services on social media.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that any person who tried calling 911 during the outage has been called back and provided assistance.

“9-1-1 phone service has been restored,” LVMPD posted. “All of the individuals who called during the outage have been called back and provided assistance. Non-emergency calls are also working. As always, please do not call 9-1-1 unless you have an emergency.”
Other states were still trying to resolve the outages as of early Thursday morning.
