Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is ahead, according to new polls in North Carolina and Wisconsin, two swing states President Trump likely needs to win in November to keep his office.
A pair of CNN polls released on Tuesday put Biden ahead of Trump by 3 percentage points in North Carolina, which has 15 electoral votes, and by 10 points in Wisconsin, which has 10 electoral votes.
The North Carolina poll surveyed 1,006 respondents from Sept. 9-13 and carries with it a margin of error of 3.9 points. In previous polls in the state, the results have shown a very close race. A poll from WRAL-TV and SurveyUSA that covered the same time frame put the race at a tie, a relative rarity among polling results.
In Wisconsin, the poll covered the same amount of respondents over the same period with a nearly identical margin of error. This data represents the first time since June that Biden has had a clear double-digit lead in the state.
In 2016, Trump secured both states in his victory over then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. He took North Carolina by just over 3 percentage points and Wisconsin by less than 1 point.
With the election 49 days away, Biden has a comfortable lead in most national polls.
