The concept of grand strategy certainly does escape the left, doesn’t it? From a strictly military point of view, the Democrats’ position on Iraq can be maddening. We have to stop fighting the enemy in one theater so that we can fight them in another? We have to cease action mid-battle so that we can withdraw, uproot, and move 3,000 miles to another battleground? Giving the bad guys in Afghanistan an uninterrupted supply line from Damascus to Baghdad to Tehran to the Helmand? If the Democrats are so deeply interested in winning Afghanistan, then they should be more than eager to increase the size and shape of the Armed Forces. The United States didn’t stop fighting in the European Theater during World War II so that we could win in the Pacific; instead we tailored our military to the task at hand, and won the war. I wish Democratic leadership would just come out and say what they mean (their political survival is more important than victory), instead of dogmatically adhering to these ridiculous, non-sensical talking points. At the very least, I could respect the honesty.
