Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis raised close to $14 million in April — his biggest fundraising month since the 2018 campaign.
Two donors were responsible for over half of the money donated to the Friends of Ron DeSantis political committee, pouring in $7.8 million of the nearly $14 million haul. Chicago hedge fund manager Kenneth Griffin was the largest of the donors, donating $5 million. The Republican Governors Association contributed $2.8 million. Griffin was also the biggest DeSantis donor in 2018.
The group’s war chest now has close to $31 million on hand.
The numbers stand in stark contrast to the donations to former governor and current Florida Sen. Rick Scott, who in 2013 took six months to raise what DeSantis has raised in April alone.

The numbers also dwarf potential 2022 opponent, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, who raised just $361,000 in April.
The news comes at a time when DeSantis has burst onto the national stage, becoming one of the Republican front-runners for the 2024 presidential nomination if he chooses to enter the race.
Many polls show DeSantis leading the pack of potential contenders, including former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

But DeSantis takes a back seat to former President Donald Trump in polls, indicating that Trump still has a strong grip on supporters of the GOP. Trump has hinted at the possibility of a 2024 run, even pointing to DeSantis as a potential running mate, should he make a third bid for the White House.
