Republican Jim Adams dropped out of the Howard County Council District 5 race, citing “dirty politics.”
“The first reason is that there was a slim chance that I could win, but more importantly, I have recently become aware of what I refer to as dirty politics,” according to Adams? speech given Monday at Chris Merdon?s campaign headquarters.
Adams said he supports Republican and former Howard County Police Chief Wayne Livesay for the seat, which represents the western portion of Howard County.
“There are various items that the opposition is wrongly addressing and I will not go into them, with one exception. That exception addresses Wayne Livesay as a Republican,” according to Adams? speech.
Livesay said in an interview Monday that Adams may have been unhappy with the third Republican contender for the District 5 seat, Greg Fox, who has circulated fliers expressing opposition to Livesay.
The fliers state that Livesay has changed parties two times.
“[Livesay] thinks you won?t remember how he worked to defeat Republicans in 2002. Show him he is wrong. Vote for a loyal Republican,” state the fliers.
Fox said his fliers were not an attack on Livesay.
“It is just pointing out the political opportunism of switching parties twice. If they are willing to switch parties on a whim, what does that tell you about a person?” Fox said.
