Political operative Roger Stone said Friday that he believes Trump wasn’t allowed to release all of the secret John F. Kennedy assassination records because of an effort by “Deep State” policies to cover their “asses.”
Stone was reacting to Trump’s decision to allow only 2,800 of the remaining 3,100 JFK documents to be released on Thursday, and give agencies six months to review their contents for possible redactions related to national security, law enforcement, and foreign affairs concerns.
“I was told that they went to [Trump] and said, ‘These 200 documents can never be released, but we just don’t have enough time to explain to you why,'” Stone said of the intelligence agencies during a brief interview Friday on Infowars, which has a history of pushing conspiracy theories.
Trump replied, “‘good,'” and was the one who gave them six months to put in the work, Stone added.
Both Stone and Infowars host Alex Jones spoke about the “intel” they received on JFK files decision, and painted the intelligence community as part of a secret group trying to exert its authority over the government and democracy, known as the “Deep State.” Stone claims to be very close to the White House, and told the Washington Examiner that last week he “laid out the case for transparency” to Trump over the phone on why he should release the JFK files.
“The word I got is they just double crossed him last minute and didn’t put it out; the president doesn’t want to look embarrassed,” Jones said, appearing to refer to Trump’s promise last weekend to allow the release of the files “subject to the receipt of further information.”
“The guys in Langley are moving quickly to cover their asses,” Stone said, referring to the CIA’s headquarters, which is located in Langley, Va. “They gotta clean these up quickly. Why they didn’t already have these redactions done and why they didn’t already have.”
“Clearly, they have it sitting around for blackmail purposes,” Jones added.
“They thought they they would bluff him, and he would never allow release of these,” Stone added.
Stone, who has argued that Lyndon B. Johnson was behind the assassination of Kennedy, contended, “The same people who undermined John F. Kennedy and liquidated him are the people trying to take down our president.”
Stone previously said that CIA Director Mike Pompeo pressed Trump to block the release of some of the documents.
A CIA spokesperson issued a brief statement when the Washington Examiner asked for comment over the weekend. “CIA continues to engage in the process to determine the appropriate next steps with respect to any previously-unreleased CIA information,” said CIA media spokesperson Nicole de Haay.
Trump tweeted Friday morning that he hopes to get “just about” all of the information in the JFK files related to the assassination of JFK released to the public.
