Man killed when tree falls on car in Fairfax County

A large tree fell on a Mercedes-Benz in Fairfax County, killing the driver, police officials said.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, 64-year-old Albert Carl Roeth III was driving his 2008 Mercedes CL600 on the 9900 block of Georgetown Pike in Great Falls when the tree fell from the right side of the road, crushing the driver compartment of the car, officials said. Roeth was the only person in the vehicle.

An arborist estimated that the tree was about 100 feet tall and 40 tons, said Mary Ann Jennings, director of public information for the Fairfax police.
