Minnesota governor talked to Al Franken ‘on a personal level’

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, a Democrat, says he talked to embattled Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., recently after allegations emerged that he groped two women.

But Dayton said he only talked to Franken on a “personal level,” and said he didn’t talk about strategy with Franken, according to the Associated Press.

Franken supports a Senate Ethics Committee investigation into his actions, which occurred in 2006 and 2010. Franken himself called for an ethics investigation, although lawmakers have noted in the past that the Senate Ethics Committee rarely punishes any senator for wrongdoing.

Last week, a radio host accused Franken of forcing her to kiss him during a USO show in 2006. Since then, another woman came forward to say Franken grabbed her rear end while posing for a picture with her in 2010.

Franken is not returning to Minnesota for Thanksgiving, and will remain in Washington, D.C. with his family.

A spokesman for Franken said he would spend time “reflecting.”
