President-elect Trump said American manufacturers are on notice that moving jobs outside of the United States is going to cost them a pretty penny.
In a press conference Wednesday, Trump said “the word is out” that moving jobs to Mexico or overseas is going to end up costing manufacturers. He’s proposing a border tax to make their products too expensive in the United States.
“The word is now out that when you want to move your plant to Mexico or some place and you want to fire all of your workers from Michigan and Ohio and all these places that I won for good reason, it’s not gonna happen that way anymore,” Trump said.
Trump added his plan is to drive up the cost on foreign-made products. Instead, he wants to encourage competition among the states.
“You can move from Michigan to Tennessee and North Carolina and South Carolina or you can move from South Carolina to Michigan, you can move anywhere, you’ve got a lot of states and a lot of competition,” he said.
“And I don’t care, as long as it’s within the United States.”
