Social Security update: July direct payment worth up to $943 goes out in 19 days

The Supplemental Security Income payment for July, worth up to $943 a month for individual filers, goes out to millions of beneficiaries in 19 days.

The payment will be delivered on Monday, July 1, to those living with a disability that results in a limited income, according to the Social Security Administration

The maximum amount people can receive depends on their eligibility. Categories include individual filers, joint filers, and essential persons who live with SSI recipients to provide them with necessary care.

People who filed as a couple can receive up to $1,415 a month, and essential persons get up to $472 each month. Due to inflation, these amounts have increased by 3.2% since last year.

To qualify for the payments, a person needs to be at least partially blind or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that seriously limits their daily activities for a period of 12 months or more, or may be expected to result in death.”

Regular Social Security benefits are not included in SSI payments. Enrolling in Social Security does not automatically qualify someone for SSI payments, and not every recipient enrolled will be entitled to the maximum amount.
