CBS host Gayle King is denying reports that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, have booked a “tell-all interview” with her following their announcement about stepping back from their roles as senior members of the British royal family.
On Thursday, the New York Post reported that King “is set to score the first interview with the Sussexes post-Megxit.” A source reportedly told the publication, “It’s hush-hush, but there’s no one else they would turn to.”
However, King, who was invited to Meghan’s baby shower last February, pushed back on the report on Saturday and denied that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had booked an interview with her.
“Gayle says she has had absolutely no conversations with Meghan & Harry (or their representatives) about doing an interview with them,” a CBS spokesperson told the Sun.
Rumors of an interview with King, 65, came days after the couple revealed their intentions to “step back” from their roles in order to become “financially independent” and to split their time between the United Kingdom and North America. The announcement was met with “shock” from the rest of the royal family, as the pair reportedly did not inform Queen Elizabeth II of their plans.
The queen has called together an emergency royal summit to take place on Monday, during which she, Prince Charles, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to discuss the details and options for their transition. Prince William, 37, expressed his “sadness” that the family is no longer a “team,” and recent polls show the majority of Britons believe Harry and Meghan should be stripped of their royal titles.
Harry, 35, married Meghan, 38, in 2018, and the former American actress, whose mother is black, has endured racism from the British press and people ever since.
