Arlington billed $2 million for HOT lanes suit

Arlington County officials spent about $2 million on a lawsuit that ultimately forced Virginia transportation officials to change their plans for high-occupancy toll lanes on interstates through the county.

The county was billed a total of $1.96 million by Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis, the law firm representing the Arlington County Board’s interests in preventing the construction of the HOT lanes on Interstates 95 and 395 without an environmental study, according to the Sun Gazette.

County Board members filed the lawsuit in 2009. The Virginia Department of Transportation announced earlier this year it would abandon the planned HOT lanes through Arlington, but would continue on with the project elsewhere.
