Roger Stone praised “God almighty” following the news that President Trump will pardon him.
Stone said his attorneys confirmed that he has been pardoned by Trump after the White House issued a statement Wednesday that included 26 new pardons and three more commutations.
“I believe it is true,” Stone said. “My attorney has now checked with the White House council, and we have assurances that the media reports are accurate because it was on CNN, so therefore, you know, it’s a high probability that anything on there is not true.”
“I have an enormous debt of gratitude to God almighty for giving the president the strength and the courage to recognize that my prosecution was a completely, politically motivated witch hunt and my trial was a Soviet-style show trial,” Stone added.
In January 2019, Stone was charged with five counts of making false statements in connection with Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation. Stone’s high-profile arrest was caught by CNN cameras that were honed in on his estate in Florida after allegedly receiving a tip of his scheduled arrest.
Stone argued the judge in his case “hid exculpatory evidence” from his trial based on redacted sections of the Mueller report, “in which they admitted that they had no evidence whatsoever of my colluding with Russia, WikiLeaks, [or] Julian Assange.”
Trump is also reportedly considering granting a pardon to Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.
