RICHMOND — Democratic lawmakers in Richmond announced the formation of the Virginia Progressive Caucus Friday morning, a day after pro-life advocates won a long-sought victory with the Senate passing legislation to implement tighter restrictions on abortion clinics.
“While Virginia can be slow to change, we have to keep pace with the times when it comes to issues like stem cell research, global warming and society’s attitudes towards gays and lesbians,” said Del. Adam Ebbin, D-Alexandria. “As progressives, it is important that we stand together as we move Virginia forward.”
Many of the approximately 20 members, not surprisingly, hail from Northern Virginia, one of the bluest parts of the deeply purple Commonwealth, including Dels. Bob Brink, D-Arlington, David Englin, D-Arlington, Patrick Hope, D-Arlington, Mark Keam, D-Fairfax, Kaye Kory, D-Fairfax, Ken Plum, D-Fairfax, Scott Surovell, D-Fairfax, and James Scott, D-Fairfax.
Hope said that the caucus would define its agenda in time for the fall’s elections “so voters can see what we stand for.”
