Montgomery County Councilwoman Duchy Trachtenberg, D-at large, won’t seek endorsements from the county’s employee unions, according to Maryland Politics Watch.
In a letter to the unions, Trachtenberg said it would be a conflict of interest to accept donations from the groups because of her role in deciding compensation and benefits for county employees.
Union leaders have called for political retribution against council members in the wake of their decision to impose furloughs on non-school employees and eliminate so-called “phantom” cost-of-living increases.
Trachtenberg accepted endorsements and money from county employee unions in the past.
