Firefighters respond to Arlington apartment fire

Firefighters fought off a blaze in an Arlington garden-style apartment building Wednesday afternoon.

The fire department received a call around 1:25 p.m. from a resident who said he smelled smoke in his building at 1610 N. Queen St. By the time firefighters got there, smoke was spewing from the top floor and residents were evacuating, fire department spokesman Gregg Karl said.

Firefighters doused the fire quickly, but one apartment had extensive damage, Karl said.

The Red Cross was assisting those displaced by the fire, and the fire marshall is investigating the cause of the flames. No injuries were reported.
