Former President George H.W. Bush thanked well-wishers on Tuesday as he celebrated his 94th birthday, becoming the first former president to reach that age.
“As many of you know, for years I have said the three most important things in life are faith, family, and friends,” Bush said in a statement released by spokesman Jim McGrath on Twitter.
“My faith has never been stronger. I am blessed with the world’s most loving family. And thanks to you, I feel the love of the best friends a man ever had,” he continued. “My heart is full on the first day of my 95th year.”

The 41st president’s son, former President George W. Bush, shared a photo of himself and his father on social media Tuesday to commemorate the occasion.
“I’m a lucky man to be named for George Bush and to be with ’41’ on his 94th birthday,” the 43rd president wrote on Instagram.
This is George H.W. Bush’s first birthday without his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush, who died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure at the age of 92 in April.
